A variety of English Language Programs are offered to provide a range of intensities, academic needs and durations. The curriculum is based on the needs of each proficiency level and is designed to allow participants to progress rapidly and achieve language fluency. Modern teaching methods focus on instilling linguistic, practical, communicative, and cultural aspects of the language, while being fully immersed in the Australian way of life. All levels from Total Beginner to High Advanced are available (see 'Placement Test & Proficiency Levels' below). Classes are held from Monday to Friday. Each class is 45 minutes to 1 hour long.

Language Classes
The intensive program integrates the four language skills: reading, writing, speaking, and listening. In addition, grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation are emphasized to enable students to attain communicative proficiency. The curriculum is based on the needs of each proficiency level (see below for description) and is designed to allow participants to progress rapidly and achieve language fluency. Emphasis is placed on developing participants' oral expression, listening comprehension, reading comprehension, writing, and grammatical skills.
Class exercises focus on words and expressions, direct and indirect questions, intonation, verbs, speaking and writing tasks. Modern and interactive teaching methods focus on instilling linguistic, practical, communicative, and cultural aspects of the language, while being fully immersed in the Australian way of life. Participants gain valuable information about contemporary Australian culture and society.
Language Electives - (Intermediate to Advanced levels only)
A wide range of interesting electives are held weekly for students from Intermediate to Advanced levels. These electives are designed to further expand the students' knowledge of Australia and build linguistic skills in the various areas of vocabulary and comprehension.
Personalised Study
To improve and enhance the students’ English language studies, various supervised study facilities are provided. These classes are held each day of the week after English language classes. Students are able to use the wide variety of facilities provided by the Academy. All facilities are supervised by expert teachers who are there to give individual attention to students and ensure that their Language Program is as effective as possible.

BUSINESS ENGLISH
Levels: Intermediate to Advanced
Duration: 8 weeks
Classes: 25 hours per week (20 hours of language classes plus 5 hours of personalised study)
This Business English program provides an excellent balance of English skills necessary for everyday communication in a work context, along with a specific tailored program designed to prepare students for the demands of international business communication. Our highly qualified Business English teachers are specialists with an extensive range of business experience. Classes focus on a wide range of relevant and interesting topics such as management, marketing, human resources, finance, accounting, and company structures.
Students are encouraged to develop business communication skills in areas such as presentations, meetings, negotiations, telephone etiquette, formal letters, reports, presentations, emails and faxes. Features of this course include guest speakers, exchange of international business protocols, on-site company visits, and individually tailored supervised study in which students focus on their own needs using computer and internet resources. Students interested in Business exam preparation may enrol in the LCCI examinations in Business English. Exams take place at the end of the program.
Exam Preparation Programs
Many students studying the English language may wish to complement their studies with an exam course, in order to attain an 'official' recognition of their level of English. At the Academy students can combine general English classes with one of the following exam preparation courses:
- IELTS (International English Language Testing System)
Levels: Intermediate to Advanced
Duration: 8 weeks
Classes: 25 hours per week (including 5 hours exam preparation)
The IELTS test is administered by the British Council, the University of Cambridge and IDP Australia. A prescribed IELTS score is now required by many Australian and British universities and colleges as a qualification for entry onto a course. At the Academy the IELTS preparation course runs throughout the year and prepares students for all aspects of the IELTS test. The IELTS test runs in Sydney every 2 weeks. With the help of an Academic Counsellor, students can enrol for the IELTS test after their arrival.
- TOEIC (Test of English for as a Foreign Language)

First, participants are placed according to the proficiency level they indicate on the application form. At the start of the program, all students complete a comprehensive test and interview to ensure they are placed in the appropriate class according to their level of English.
BEGINNER
This level is for participants who have never learnt English or who have learnt a few words but cannot express themselves in complete sentences. Classes focus on introducing basic vocabulary, grammar, sentence structures, and simple texts. The Beginners program provides a good foundation to the English language.
ELEMENTARY
This level is for those who have learnt basic vocabulary and can express themselves in simple sentences on common topics. Classes focus on building participants' vocabulary, grammar and sentence structures. Classwork includes everyday topics and participants are encouraged to converse and express themselves using basic sentence structures.
HIGH ELEMENTARY
This level is for those who have a grasp of simple sentence structures, and have learnt basic grammar systematically. Classes focus on improving participants' vocabulary, sentence structures, listening, reading, and speaking skills. Phonetics exercises and drills ensure that participants learn the correct pronunciation and intonation.
INTERMEDIATE
This level is for those who are able to converse on general topics and express themselves using more complex sentence structures in English. Participants learn to communicate in various situations with clarity and confidence, including describing personal experiences. Writing and reading comprehension exercises include composing personal letters and understanding general work correspondences.
HIGH INTERMEDIATE
This level is for those who are able to converse on various topics and express themselves using complex sentence structures. Classes build on increasing the level of grammar and vocabulary, enabling participants to express themselves functionally in different contexts. Emphasis is placed on participants' grammar, syntax, writing, oral expression, and listening comprehension skills. Exercises to improve writing, speaking, and grammar skills include writing reports, letters, narratives, and essays. Phonetics exercises and drills ensure that participants quickly master correct pronunciation.
ADVANCED
This level is for those who can discuss specific topics, raise complex questions, and express their opinions clearly using correct pronunciation. Participants can express themselves systematically using appropriate expressions and language norms. The curriculum is focused on enabling participants to express themselves proficiently at an abstract level. To improve fluency, classwork includes advanced writing and oral expression styles and techniques, such as commentaries, speeches and debates.
HIGH ADVANCED
This level is for those who posses a high command of the English language and culture and are able to converse fluently and effectively using appropriate expressions and language norms. The curriculum is focused on enabling participants to master the language and express themselves in a proficient manner at an abstract level. Classwork focuses on perfecting oral expression and writing skills and developing a global perspective of Australian culture in relation to participants' particular field of interest.
Excursions and cultural activities are an important component of learning, and provide participants with a deeper understanding of the Australian lifestyle, history, and culture. A wide range of excursions to major attractions, museums, historic sites and galleries are available. Activities vary depending on program intake. Guided tours and activities held on weekday afternoons.

Teachers are committed to providing effective and enjoyable programs and are dedicated to helping each student achieve their full potential as effectively as possible. Teachers are selected for their teaching expertise, specialist qualifications, and experience in teaching English as a second language. Up-to-date, carefully selected materials are used in class, giving participants valuable information on modern-day Australian culture and society while developing language and communication skills.
Participants' progress is continuously monitored and assessed through classwork, interviews conducted by the teacher, and monthly progress tests throughout the program. Upon successful completion of the program, each student is awarded a Certificate indicating the completed level of proficiency attained.

Participants are required to contact the Australian Consulate in their home country regarding applicable visa regulations. In general, everyone, except holders of Australia and New Zealand passports, requires a visa before entering Australia. Students participating in WLE's English Language Immersion Programs can apply for one of 3 main types of visa:
- Tourist Visa
- Student Visa
- Working Holiday Maker Visa
If a student visa is needed, WLE provides participants with the documents required by the Australian Consulate:
1) A Letter of Admission (verifying that full program fees have been paid)
2) A Travel Medical Insurance Coverage Letter
These documents will be provided as soon as the total program fees are paid and enrolment is completed.
