Exam Preparation Programs
Many students studying the English language may wish to complement their studies with an exam course, in order to attain an 'official' recognition of their level of English. At the Academy students can combine general English classes with one of the following exam preparation courses:
- IELTS (International English Language Testing System)
Levels: Intermediate to Advanced
Duration: 8 weeks
Classes: 25 hours per week (including 5 hours exam preparation)
The IELTS test is administered by the British Council, the University of Cambridge and IDP Australia. A prescribed IELTS score is now required by many Australian and British universities and colleges as a qualification for entry onto a course. At the Academy the IELTS preparation course runs throughout the year and prepares students for all aspects of the IELTS test. The IELTS test runs in Sydney every 2 weeks. With the help of an Academic Counsellor, students can enrol for the IELTS test after their arrival.
- TOEIC (Test of English for International Communication)
Levels: Intermediate to Advanced
Duration: 4 weeks
Classes: 25 hours per week (including 5 hours exam preparation)
A TOEIC score indicates how well a non-native speaker can communicate in business, commerce, and industry situations. The TOEIC exam is a 2-part multiple choice test which consists of 200 questions. The first section tests students' listening skills, with questions on a variety of statements, conversations and short speeches. The second section evaluates the student's reading and comprehension skills, using questions based on a selection of reading materials. The TOEIC exam preparation program assists students in prepareing for this test. Activities include critical analysis, communicative skill development, and deriving the contextual meaning of a passage. TOEIC tests are administered throughout the year and students can take the TOEIC test at the end of each 4 week course. The results are posted approximately 2 weeks after the exam.
