To study at any of the Universities and Colleges listed in New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland or Western Australia, students can gain direct entry by completing the English for Academic Purposes program at the Academy of English in Brisbane, Perth or Sydney (Bondi or City). Students who successfully complete the program, and who meet the academic entry requirements, are able to gain direct entry into the course of their choice without taking the IELTS or TOEFL test.
Levels: Intermediate to High Advanced
Duration: 8 weeks
Classes: 25 hours per week (20 hours of language classes plus 5 hours of supervised study)
This course is specifically designed for students who wish to prepare for further academic studies in universities, TAFE, Business College or other institutes. There are three different EAP Programs, corresponding to three levels of English proficiency:
EAP 1
Prepares students with an intermediate level of English for vocational studies or further advanced study in EAP 2.
EAP 2
Designed for students at an upper-intermediate level of English who wish to prepare for undergraduate and postgraduate courses that have an English entry level of IELTS 6.0.
EAP 3
An MBA preparation course suitable for students who have already attained an Advanced level of English
The EAP program provides rigorous training in academic skills such as: academic writing, academic reading and critical analysis of texts, listening and note taking, oral presentations and tutorials, library and assignment research skills, study skills, and computer literacy. For further language study, students are provided with supervised study sessions each day. In this time students may access the study facilities which include a Computer centre, Language laboratory, Library, supervised homework room, Conversation Club and DVD Club. All facilities are supervised by expert teachers who are available to give individual attention to students and ensure that their Language Program is as effective as possible.
The overall aim of the program is to prepare students for university studies, and to instil the linguistic, practical, and cultural aspects of the English language. Students who successfully complete EAP at the Academy, and who meet the academic entry requirements, are able to gain direct entry to various Australian Universities.
